IMPASSION by B.C. Burgess

Boy did it take me some time to write this review. I read the book in a day. Seriously, I couldn't put it down; I was up 'till 4 in the morning & didn't even regret it the next day. However, finding the time to write the review did take me a while. But it's finally here!
Drumroll please....

note: there might be some teensy weensy spoilers (I suck at rooting them out). I was so excited when I heard this was coming out; it had been on my to-read list for EVER (now the next one's on my to -read list, but such is life). It was GREAT!!
DESCENSION was amazing, but it really focused on Layla's parents and their story. This time, we got to see how Layla dealt with everything & how her & Quin's relationship developed. And let me just say, I LOVED it!!
it got steamier & sweeter & really honest. & the author writes it in such a way that you forget that they've only known each other for a short period of time (until you re-read parts of the book to go review it). I found Quin a little annoying when he was groveling for Layla to forgive him, but it's just because it annoyed me that he wasn't completely honest with her & then immediately expected her to be ok with it; honestly, I think I was more mad than Layla was. It doesn't even matter though, cause they were so cute together!! I'd put up some of my favorite quotes, but it would probably end up being most of the book.
I like that we get to scenes from the bad guy's point of view as well & I'm not sure what to think about this new guy, but I'm really hoping he won't get in between Layla and Quin; because if he does, I will be very upset.
I LOVED Alana; she was such a bubbly kid & reading about her with Layla got me thinking about Layla and Quin's future. Which is why I NEED them to stay together. okay? it is vital to my well-being!!! so this new guy can just go bug off; I don't care if  he is Layla's counterpart or whatever. they can just team up to save the world in a completely platonic way.
I don't know what else to say about the book without giving away any details. But I loved the cliff scene (obviously) and the welcoming ceremony scene; the way Burgess writes about it, I really wish it were real.
She gives a lot of really good descriptions, without taking attention away from what's happening in the book.

& I absolutely love that Layla's a coffee addict just like me! Which is why I chose to share this with you:
I can't wait to see what's next!

Out of the Darkness by Quinn Loftis

Heads up! This review will be rather long, since it contains so much gushing ;)

First off, I wanna say: Quinn Loftis, I bow before your awesomeness and writing prowess. I'd seriously be honored to have half as much talent as you do & I'm gonna stop myself right there because if I keep going, I'll never stop rambling about her greatness. Point is: she's awesome, great & any other similar flattering adjective you may think of.
This was the fourth installment in the series and I am so far beyond in love with this book, it's not even funny. Every single aspect about it is perfect!
The plot is unpredictable, entertaining, and kept me on the edge of wherever I was (I was reading that thing everywhere).
I don't wanna give any spoilers about the book specifically, but I will say we deal with some new supernaturals & things get a heck of a lot more interesting.
I am also in love with every single one of the characters (even the bad ones 'cause they're so good at being bad). I find myself wishing I was a member of the Romanian pack, just so I'd have the chance to make them all my best friends.
I love ALL the couples. Seriously. From Fane & Jacque, Vasile & Alina, Decebel & Jen, to the new ones ;)
The chemistry all the characters share is so perfectly balanced, it's uncanny! The way Jen, Jacque and Sally have assimilated with the pack, and the way the three of them interact; as a unit, the way they're so in sync. & the way Loftis writes about the couples; it's like they're a team, but the girls are fiercely independent and their mates love & hate that at the same time.
If I was forced to pick a favorite aspect of the book, it would have to be the dialogue. It had me laughing so much, tears came out & anyone who heard me must think I'm a psychopath. *My favorite lines are at the bottom*
The humor diffused the seriousness of the plot, but it also conveyed the characters' loves, fears, worries, determination and power.
There was a lot of Decebel & Jen going on, since the plot really focused on them, but it'd be great if we caught more glimpses of the other couples in the next book (there is a next book right? I might die if there isn't! I AM NOT SATISFIED WITH THAT ENGIND; IT IMPLIED THERE WILL BE MORE! THERE MUST BE MORE!)
The next book (positive thinking) will probably focus on a new couple but more Fane and Jacque and Vasile and Alina would be greatly appreciated.
Also, have I mentioned the banter from Jacque, Jen and Sally is great? I would honestly recommend the book to ANYONE because their banter would make 'em laugh. I betcha even the guards at the Buckingham Palace would crack a few smiles at it (hmm... if I ever visit the Buckingham Palace, I know what I'm doing!)

I don't know how Loftis did it, but she has created a perfect series. Often, a series drops as more books get published, but Loftis manages to make every book perfect in its own way.

This book (& the series) get:  * x ∞!!!!
Now here're those lines:
-"Ah, man," Jacque whined. "She gets to meet the Fae and I have to go to a dungeon to talk to some old, reclusive werewolf scribe who's probably as worn as dusty as the records we'll have to sift through"

-"Yeah, well, just because you're Alpha doesn't mean you're exempt from nicknames. Although, I could call you A, but it would be too tempting to add the word hole behind it."

-"No, you dimwit. Cursed as in it's 'Leviosa' not 'Leviosa'. Not curse as in dumbass."

-"Well, you are mated to Jen." Sally chuckled. "Her middle name changes from day to day. Her staples are 'nympho', 'impetuous', 'too smart for her own good', 'smart-ass', and all too often, 'asinine'. You've got your work cut out for you."

-"Lay it on me."
"I was trying to. Geez, woman, make up your mind," Fane told her, eyes glowing. She threw one hand up to hold him off.
"I meant your idea, fur ball, not your delectable body."

-Jacque decided that regardless of her name, she was going to call her Surely, because she could surely kick anyone's ass.

-"Attention shoppers, just a brief announcement, crazy ass werewolf on aisle three. Those with an abundance of testosterone, don't touch the merchandise and you might walk out of here intact."

-The group spent the day resting and avoiding the elephant in the room. The males didn't want the females to go, the females wanted to stick hot pokers in the males' eyes. Yeah, it wasn't tense at all.

-Jacque chuckled. "She grows on you."
Peri snorted "What, like a fungus?"

-"I would be a cow if I could do that and conjure cupcakes up anytime I wanted to in mass quantities like that"
Adam looked at her with his head cocked to the side "Do cows like cupcakes?"
Jacque rolled her eyes and let out a loud breath, waving him off. "Never mind, Legolas. I forget that my sarcasm and witty banter is wasted on your pointy ears."

& last but not least -since it's my personal fave:
-"Okay, maybe we don't have time to go over all of them now, but I feel obligated in this dire situation, when we don't know if we will live or die, to share with you the words my mate spoke to tell me it was time to go. Drum roll, please."
Decebel was snarling at his mate, who looked completely undaunted. Elle and Adam had tow throwing knives each and were bouncing them off the cave walls in a drum roll.
Jen imitated Decebel's deep voice as she spoke. "Jennifer, wake up. You must ride me."

Cravings!!

It's Crave by Melissa Darnell

It's the first installment in a series called the Clann (yes, that second n is supposed to be there).
It was interesting because it gives a new outlook on vampires & witches. Usually, the vampires' main enemies are werewolves, but here it's witches! & the heroine just so happens to be a hybrid of the two races. To top it all off, the love interest is next-in-line for leadership of the witches (known as the Clann)
It's like a paranormal Romeo & Juliet!
The heroine, Savannah, is just discovering what she is. The fact that she's a dhampir (half-vampire & half-witch, in this case) is the reason her group of friends suddenly stopped hanging out with her and started avoiding & ridiculing her.
When she comes back after going through puberty (you'll have to read the book to really understand that part) she begins to exhibit new characteristics and she also begins to reconnect with the boy she liked so long ago; Tristin, the future leader of the Clann.

The story was interesting enough; although you'd think that with all the vampires and witches, there'd be more action (but maybe the author is saving that for the next book; at the end, it seems like she's building up to that). & I'd like to see more of the other characters: Anna -the sarcastic best friend-, the mom, the grandma, Tristin's sister; they all added a lot to the story.
I liked that is was in alternating point of views; both characters -Tristin & Savannah- were great and I liked being able to see what was going on from both sides.

3 1/2 out of 5 stars ****

I Missed My Hogwarts Acceptance Letter

I just read Descension by by B.C. Burgess. It was absolutely great.

Here's the description:
The Angel
After three years caring for her dying mother, Layla Callaway learns she was adopted under unusual circumstances. Following a cryptic message to seek her birth family in Oregon, Layla uproots her lonely life, quickly finding she descends from witches and wizards. Magic is in her blood, and a handsome family friend is eager to prove it. Through a ring imprinted with her birth parents’ memories, Layla’s enigmatic past comes to light, presenting possibilities and trials more chimerical than her wildest dreams.

The Guardian
Quin’s natural charisma yields plenty of witches, but he longs for the lost witch – the mysterious Layla. He's dreamed about her his entire life, envisioning the day he would lay eyes on her face and aura. When that day arrives, not only is he breathless, he’s confronted with the challenge of a lifetime – an innate need to keep her safe and forever by his side.

The Hunter
Employing fiendish manipulation and manpower, Agro uses the arcane force of others to elevate his supremacy and wealth. Nothing pleases him more than latching on to a mystical vein, and never has there been a more enticing source. The divine witch will be his.

& Here's my review:
10/5 stars **********
Oh.My.GOSH. I know I sound like a twelve year old girl who just met the JonasBrothers/JustinBieber/OneDirection, I know. But that's how crazy I am over this book. It was absolutely amazing. I've been looking for a good magic book to read & I found it in this one. I love the Layla/Quin dynamic & the magic aspect of the book is mysterious and fantastical in all the right ways. & the intercalated story of Layla's parents was great.

It starts off with Layla in Oklahoma, after her mother dies, Layla is lost; with only two friends to depend on. Until she meets with her mother's lawyer & she learns [ that she's adopted & her real family is in Oregon [ so she sets off to discover who she is and everything she 's missing.
She meets a mysterious stranger, who divulges that he knows more about her than she lets on & helps her discover everything else she doesn't know, and who she really is... a witch.

I can't wait for the next one. seriously. I need to know SOMETHING. the title, a teaser. the date. ANYTHING!!!

I especially liked this book because of the way it explains the magic thing. I've always loved magic. When I was little, I always wanted to be a witch & I was obsessed with anything that had to do with them. I even dressed up as one for Halloween, 4 years straight. So this book especially hit the spot. Especially the romance between Quin and Layla & Layla's parents. Everything was great <3 OH! & Layla, the main character, is a coffee addict like me & she drinks it with "lots of cream & even more sugar", just like me!! So you know she's a character I like. & Quin is tall, dark, & handsome. & super sweet. so I definitely like him too ;)

So I've dropped off the map again... My bad, school. I'm in the midst of finals, so I've been focused on studying. Everyone is already done & my dear school still goes on. I'm so excited for summer. I'm going to be playing soccer (as always), I'll be getting my license, I'm also traveling to spain for 18 days & I'll be watching the Spain soccer team play against the Puerto Rican one. So it's gonna be a really exciting summer. <3 can't wait! in the meantime, however, I have to study. I'm done with 2/7 finals. So I've got to hit the books!
